Non-Newtonian Club
What is the Non-Newtonian Club??
The Non-Newtonian Club (NNC) is an informal rheology discussion group with provides low-cost, half-day or one-day meetings with the aim to bring together experienced and not-so-experienced rheologists form industry and academia. PhD students with an interest in rheology are particularly encouraged to attend, as it is you who are the future of our discipline.

We haven’t had a Non-Newtonian Club (NNC) meeting in 2011 and sincere apologies to those of you who contacted me for the next meeting. The New President of the BSR and I have done a bit of thinking about how an NNC meeting will fit into the calendar of the British, European and International meetings in 2012. Here are the details for the next meeting:
19 March 2012 – 13:30 – 16:30 – hosted by Dr Xue-Feng Yuan at the University of Manchester, Princess Street, Manchester – Theme: HYDROGELS
To attend the NNC meeting, to give a paper or suggest a topic / problem for discussion, please contact mailto: bettina.wolf@nottingham.ac.uk Please click here to register before 29 February 2012 with a contribution of £5 towards expenses.
This meeting will be followed by a drinks reception and the AGM of the BSR as well as an invited lecture by Dr Richard Buscall entitled “How Suspensions Yield and Flow and Why We Care”. All attendees of the NNC meeting are warmly invited to attend both events. After Richard’s lecture will be the opportunity to dine together. Details and invitation to the AGM can be found in the recent Bulletin and the webpages.
The plan beyond March 2012
There will be a meeting in May 2012 in Swansea hosted by Prof Rhodri Williams, a meeting in September 2012 in London hosted by Dr Maria Charalambides, and a meeting in November 2012 in Glasgow hosted by Dr Manlio Tassieri. While the NNC meeting organisers have ideas for themes, we would like to invite you, especially BSR members based in industry or with substantial links to industrial rheology research to make suggestions. Please e-mail suggestions to mailto:bettina.wolf@nottingham.ac.uk.

We encourage anyone practising rheology to present, including PhD students and young scientists as well as more experienced rheologists and industrial rheologists. We do not have a central theme so as to invite interaction from a range of disciplines. The meeting is held in a friendly atmosphere in order to promote discussion, interaction and learning.
Previous Meeting
Birmingham University, 3rd JULY 2008 - REPORT
The previous NNC meeting was held at Univ of Birmingham on October 21st 2008, hosted by Serafim Bakalis. The catering was sponsored by Anton Paar Ltd. This was once again a well attended and highly interactive meeting, and I thank all the contributors plus Serafim for his excellent organisational skills in putting it together. Congratulations to Yan Yan for the best presentation from a young rheologist (see image below). Please click below the report on the meeting written by Steve Goodyer.
